A good box of cookies for a conference room table doesn't come cheap. And there's no sense in getting the cheap ones! Since you will no longer be going to the store for pastries, you might enjoy a few recipes for making your own. Recipe 1

Brownie

brownie 1/4 cup

1/4 tsp.
1/2 cup

butter
carob powder
white sugar
teaspoon salt
all-purpose flour
vanilla extract
egg white
chopped walnuts

Difficulty: easy
Preparation: approx. 30 minutes
 

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
  2. Melt the butter or margarine over low heat. Pour into large mixing bowl and stir in carob powder, sugar, salt, flour, and vanilla. Mix in egg whites and walnuts. Spread the dough evenly into the baking pan.
  3. Bake for 30 minutes. Let cool in pan for 10-15 minutes before cutting.

Grandma´s Gingerbread

brownie 3.5 ounce

package cook and serve butterscotch pudding mix
cup butter
packed brown sugar
egg
all-purpose flour
baking soda
ground ginger
ground cinnamon

Difficulty: easy
Preparation: approx. 30 minutes
     
Directions
  1. In a medium bowl, cream together the dry butterscotch pudding mix, butter, and brown sugar until smooth. Stir in the egg. Combine the flour, baking soda, ginger, and cinnamon; stir into the pudding mixture. Cover, and chill dough until firm, about 1 hour.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease baking sheets. On a floured board, roll dough out to about 1/8 inch thickness, and cut into man shapes using a cookie cutter. Place cookies 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  3. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, until cookies are golden at the edges. Cool on wire racks.
